Wasting No Time, Unifying the Party

[photo of McDonnell at YRFV]The Young Republican Federation of Virginia held its convention over the weekend. Summaries from Proud Republican over at VirginiaVirtucon here and Crystal Clear Conservative here. The first speaker was Attorney General Bob McDonnell.

The AG noted the significance of this election: “We have an ideological enemy,” he said, a very different kind of enemy. In 1993, with the first attack on the World Trade Center, we saw the enemy, but in 2001, we woke up. “McCain knows this,” said McDonnell (which brought a heartfelt “Yesss!” from Delegate Chris Saxman, waiting to speak later that morning). “What kind of world,” McDonnell said, “are we going to turn over to our children and grandchildren?” since we have such a determined enemy.

To sustain our country’s greatness we need real leadership, not social experiment, he said, noting that the Democrat we will face will be either the most liberal member of the Senate, or the most divisive member of the Senate. Either of them would aim for womb-to-tomb government care.

The Republican party in Virginia has challenges, but “we have a significant record of accomplishment that has led to prosperity.” McDonnell praised Lt. Gov. Bolling for being a “passionate conservative” and said that they would be reaching out in the coming months to conservative independents and clear-thinking Democrats, and that they would be taking nothing for granted.

The AG is clearly wasting no time unifying the party for the upcoming elections, and everyone at the convention was very glad of it.
