Va Patriot at Virtucon notes that, as promised, Del. Bill Janis has introduced legislation to authorize the issuance of special license plates for veterans of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
The MySpace page for the Iraqi Freedom Veteran Plate Project is here.
Not here - over at the Jefferson Mammoth. Go see. Remember.

A group of Iraq war veterans and their friends have begun the process of getting a Virginia “Iraqi Freedom Veteran” license plate made. There must be 350 paid applications for the license plate; then Del. Bill Janis will be sponsoring the legislation. This is what the plate would look like.

Rusty McGuire, an Iraq War veteran, is chairman of the group.
Here are some people looking at names etched in the glass at the Virginia War Memorial. I’m glad they have brought their children. We cannot all serve, but we should all remember at what price our freedom was bought.
Here are two articles worth reading: The Name in the Stone, by Gerard Van Der Leun, and Do Flowers Grow on Pork Chop Hill? from the Sippican Cottage blog.
Check out this exchange between Cindy McCain and reporter Ann Curry of MSNBC. Keep in mind that the McCains have one son in the military and another about to graduate from a service academy, so he will likely be active duty as well.
Ann Curry [wearing a nauseatingly condescending and pitying look]:
“You say, you want to bring them home with honor. Some people might say we just want to bring them home alive. Why is Iraq worth risking the lives of your sons, American - ”
C. McCain: “Freedom. Freedom. Freedom. Freedom from oppression. Freedom.”
Curry [puzzled] - “For…” [long pause] “…Iraqis?”
McCain: “Yes!”
Interview jumps to talking about Mrs. McCain not releasing her tax returns. (She has filed separately for their whole married life). Apparently whoever was putting together the interview segment didn’t want to pursue this “all men are created equal, and endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are Life, Liberty…” stuff. I guess they don’t get it.
The McCains get it.
I heard a little of what Hillary Clinton said at a Jefferson-Jackson dinner, televised, from Indianapolis. She said the troops “deserve a Commander in Chief who will bring them home.” Um, no. The troops deserve a Commander in Chief who will lead them to victory.
She also said Democrats were ready to “roll up our sleeves” and work on “solutions to the problems that are confronting us.” She meant, domestic problems.
Does she not get that the can-do approach towards working on domestic issues can also be applied to our troops? They are kinda can-do people, ya know. When led by a Commander in Chief who respects them.
Satellite successfully shot down. Story from navy.mil here. Extremely cool story. Even CNN online has this as its lead story at the moment.
“It was unknown whether the missile hit its precise target — the satellite’s full fuel tank. The Department of Defense said it wouldn’t know for certain for 24 hours whether the fuel tank had been hit. However, several defense officials told The Associated Press the missile did apparently destroy the fuel tank. “
Looking like some precision shooting, at an object travelling 17,000 mph.
