Congratulations to Eric Cantor
…who won, holding his own very well, while some other R congressmen did not. Good thing, too. Cantor is needed in the Congress more than ever.

A very good crowd greeted Jim and Roxane Gilmore in Henrico County on Wednesday. Here are a few pictures from the event.
Two TV stations were there and at least one newspaper, along with a lot of Henrico and Richmond elected officials and County/City committee members. I saw a lot of people I knew but could not greet many of them because I could not get around to them - it was too crowded to move around much! Which is good.
Former Gov. Gilmore drew a clear distinction between himself and his opponent:
1. Drill here, drill now, etc.! He’s for it. Warner knows this is a losing issue for Democrats and so he is being as vague as he can be about it…
2. Lower taxes
3. National security, a field in which Gilmore has splendid credentials and Warner has pretty much none at all.
(Photo details - Fujifilm 45fd - point-n-shoot. Strong sunlight through a front window and TV lights on Gilmore made these exposures possible, with flash turned off).

Be sure to see the beautiful quilts over at Kat’s Place. This might be my favorite, but there are lots more. Just keep scrolling down. Thanks for bringing these to the Virginia blogosphere, Kat!
And, for you guys who are too tough to want to look at quilts, there are some nice pictures of a black snake, too. They’re good to have in the yard, but I wouldn’t pick one up…

Criminal illegal sex offenders to be deported, courtesy of AG Bob McDonnell, the Virginia State Police, and ICE (Times-Dispatch article at link). In a press release, the AG’s office says:
“McDonnell continued remarking, ‘I trust all Virginians agree that there is no place in Virginia for criminal alien sex offenders. We must take every possible step to remove these dangerous criminals from our Commonwealth and nation. Criminal aliens threaten our citizens and our communities, and they undermine the rule of law. I thank the dedicated officers at ICE and the Virginia State Police for their important, and continuing, work on this public safety initiative. Virginia will be safer because of what we have accomplished today.’”
Speaking of dealing with criminial illegal aliens, keep an eye on HB 623, to be heard in a Senate committee today, which says:
It shall be the responsibility of the Governor, or other eligible authority, to enter into memorandum of agreement with the United States Department of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, to permit designated state and local law-enforcement officers to perform certain federal immigration law functions in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Because Gov. Tim Kaine is still dragging his feet on the 287(g)s. Thanks to Del. Jackson Miller, who is also a police officer, for introducing HB 623.
